I wonder if, as a society, we would all be more relaxed if blimps had become the dominant form of air travel
You've obviously never used rural "broadband."

...and to not be a week late for that joke next year.
The golden rule only works assuming you're not a masochist.
What if instances could have community lists that are shared with the whole instance?
It'd make it possible to have something like a curated federated timeline.
An art instance, for example, could have a community list to showcase artists from across the fediverse to their instance's users, not just from their own instance with local.
I think it'd make it easier for folks to find things relevant to their particular community.
Nicer still, an instance could make it a default column and someone newly-joining would be immediately met with content that attracted them to that community and they'd be more likely to stay.
Electron is bad because they went too far in removing the developer from the environments they are developing for.
It told people "a web app in a browser is native enough" without thinking about the myriad of problems with this way to go about it.
its why we have apps that behave completely different from the environment they are running on, and ignore any accessability settings that may be configured, such as specific fonts, DPI settings, use of screen readers, etc
When we say /ELECTRON IS A BLIGHT/
its not because we think writing webapps is bad. its not because we think using frameworks are bad.
it's because electron tries to do this job badly.
If we can put a man on the moon, how come we can't put a man on the moon?
@Elizafox Many foodies eat from a modified version of the GNU restaurant every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Meal, Ready-to-Eat", and many of its eaters are not aware that it is basically the GNU restaurant, developed by the GNU Project.
And I say that as someone who might actually have a problem with French xenophobia.
Gods, I hope 2018 doesn't have as much Russian xenophobia.
The thing about the fediverse is you just have to learn to tolerate the existence of instances you don't like; this is what a distributed system is about. The remedy to solving the problem for yourself is to block them.
Encouraging dogpiling is more likely to backfire upon you and start drama than it is to get rid of the instance. It's like the guy in my area who flies a Trump/Pence flag above the American one. I think this guy is a colossal fuckshit, but I can't just have people harass him.
@BryanLunduke i noticed it can be difficult to follow you on Mastodon as a new request hangs on pending confirmation. To solve it someone needs to unfollow or cancel the request and then follow from your external profile instead of there own instance interface so the request actually goes trough.
